Earth Day 2027 Grant Funding

Back to news

IZWTAG is pleased to offer a grant funding opportunity from the Lands and Economic Development Services Program (LEDSP) at Indigenous Services Canada (Pacific Region). A community or school-run project/event that will enhance a community’s or school’s environmental or waste awareness and practices on Earth Day (April 22, 2027) or during the year are eligible for grant amounts up to $7,500.  Some examples include Earth Day informational BBQ events, community or school gardens, composting systems, upgrades to zero waste systems or projects that your community has already started.

Eligibility

First Nations communities and First Nation operated schools in British Columbia are eligible to apply for the funding and may partner with any other organization(s) to carry out the eligible activities. Other sources of funds and in-kind contributions are welcome. To be eligible, activities must enhance a community’s or school’s environmental/waste management awareness and practices around Earth Day (April 22, 2027) or through the year; the activity must not generate a profit for the eligible recipient. If you have unresolved projects from 2026, you will be asked to complete necessary reporting before being eligible to apply for the 2027 funding.  Kindly reach out to frontdesk@izwtag.com if you believe you have unresolved projects.

FNRI Stewarded Materials

Although the Earth Day Grant funding program can be used for community garbage clean-ups, it is not intended for specific clean-ups.  Clean ups that can be funded through our partnership with FNRI, the First Nations Recycling Initiative managed by Tim Ames, will not be approved for an Earth Day Grant (e.g. tires, batteries, large appliances, paper/packaging, electronics, beverage containers, power equipment, thermostats, health products).  IZWTAG can assist with introducing your community to FNRI to ensure that your stewarded materials may be picked up free of charge under that program.
