Join Our Team as a Waste Sorter

Job Responsibilities:

  • Diligently sort waste materials into proper diversion categories, ensuring adherence to detailed sorting and material separation guidelines.
  • Weigh recycling and waste bags before and after sorting.
  • Accurately document weights and contamination data into our system using technology (phones/iPads).
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve sorting processes and overall waste diversion efficiencies.
  • Actively observe trends in waste materials and collaborate with the team to identify areas for improvement in processes or tools.
  • Lift and move heavy items, such as boxes of recycling bags or bags of material (up to 50 lbs).
  • Clean and maintain sorting stations, bins, and equipment, including mopping as required.
  • Work cooperatively in a loading bay area with an industrial setup.
  • Must be able to work an event-based schedule, including weekends, late nights, extended hours, and extended event weeks.

Key Details:

  • Starting Pay: $18 – $22 / hour (overtime available).
  • Shifts: Flexible scheduling with occasional night shifts (paid at a higher rate).
  • Location: Loading bay area with a sorting setup.

Requirements:

  • Must be bondable and able to pass a criminal record check.
  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods (8+ hours).
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Diligence and attention to detail when following sorting guidelines and entering data.
  • Basic familiarity with technology (phones/iPads) for data entry.
  • Willingness to actively collaborate and share feedback to improve processes and efficiencies.
  • Good decision-making skills with the ability to react well to high-pressure situations and tight timelines.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor conditions, in all weather, and sometimes in crowded environments with loud music, bright lights, fireworks, and other dynamic elements.
  • A safety-first attitude.
  • The ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Previous experience in recycling or waste handling is an asset but not required.
