Position Overview
ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Torch Burner to be based out of our Burnaby, B.C. location, but may require working offsite projects and occasional travel to other ABC Recycling yards. The job holder is responsible for cutting over-sized pieces of sheet and scrap metal to marketable size using oxy/propane fueled cutting torches. Typically, these large pieces are too thick or too large to be processed effectively with mobile or stationary shears.
The ideal candidate will have experience using a plasma/oxy torch; however, we are willing to train the right person for this position. Most of all a good work ethic and a willingness to learn are the keys to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Safely layouts scrap in operating area.
- Sets up and maintain oxy acetylene/ propane torches.
- Cuts large or too thick pieces of metal into customer specifications.
- Ensures fire prevention and follow safety guidelines.
- Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.
Qualifications
- Previous sheet metal, burner, and/or labourer experience.
- Experience with welding or using an oxy acetylene or oxy propane torch is required.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
- Experience running a bobcat, forklift and/or a torch/plasma cutter in a related industry is considered an asset.
- Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
- Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.
