POSITION OVERVIEW:

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator/Material Handler to be based out of our Burnaby, BC. location. Reporting to the General Manager, the job holder will be responsible for safe operation of various heavy equipment at ABC facilities and off-site along with sorting and processing of scrap metal to customer specifications. This is a union position and an afternoon shift from 2.30pm to 10:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sorts and manage materials into organized piles
  • Processes materials to customer specifications
  • Loads and unloads materials from and into various bins, dumps, trailers, and railcars
  • Assess situational risk and mitigate safety and environmental concerns
  • Performs maintenance – pre-trip inspections, lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning
  • Self-manages when operating off site

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related training or experience operating different types of excavators, mobile shears, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.
  • Prior experience with scrap metal recycling and demolition would be a definite asset
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Knowledgeable about general safety practices
  • Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally
  • High school diploma or GED certification

IMPORTANT:

We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
