Labourer

Full job description

About Us:
Salish Soils is more than a soil company. We’re a movement, restoring balance to the land, regenerating waste, and creating real opportunities for our community. Founded by shíshálh entrepreneur Aaron Joe, we’re an Indigenous-owned business rooted in circular economy practices and Indigenous values.
We’re looking for a Labourer to support yard operations with sorting, bagging, composting, and cleanup—keeping our site safe, organized, and running smoothly every day.

About the Role:
This is a hands-on, outdoor role for someone who takes pride in physical work, cares about safety, and wants to be part of a team that’s making a real environmental impact. You’ll work closely with loader operators and supervisors to keep materials moving, recycling on track, and the yard in top shape.
No prior experience is required—just reliability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do:

  • Sort through mixed C&D (construction & demolition) loads, separating materials into proper commodities
  • Work with loader operators to move sorted materials to the right areas
  • Operate the bagging machine to package compost, soil, and mulch
  • Assist with composting operations and general yard tasks
  • Keep the yard clean, safe, and organized
  • Follow all safety policies and wear required PPE (steel-toe boots, hi-vis vest, safety glasses)
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe, respectful workplace
  • Support our scale operations, greeting customers, weighing and accurately entering all customer, vehicle, and load details into the scale software.
  • Verifying material types crossing the scale, and assigning correct pricing categories.
  • Various other duties as needed

You Might Be a Good Fit If You…:

  • Are reliable, punctual, and ready to work as part of a team
  • Can work outdoors in all weather and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Have a positive attitude and openness to learning new skills
  • Take safety seriously and follow procedures without cutting corners
  • Care about sustainability, Indigenous leadership, and community impact

Compensation:

  • $25–$28 hourly wage (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Paid vacation and personal days off
  • Extended Benefits including health, dental, critical illness, and life insurance
  • Staff discounts and access to soil, compost, and produce
  • Opportunities for growth as the site expands

Our Core Values:
At Salish Soils, how we work matters just as much as what we sell.

  • We keep everyone safe: We protect ourselves and each other so everyone goes home safe.
  • We bring good vibes: We show up with positive energy and communicate respectfully.
  • We collaborate with heart: We lead with empathy and solve challenges together.
  • We serve with excellence: We deliver great products with grit, commitment, and care.
  • We raise the bar: We follow through, improve continuously, and set new standards.
  • We adapt and overcome: We stay resilient and ready for what’s next.

Why Join Salish Soils?:
You’ll be part of a growing, purpose-driven company committed to sustainability, circular economy practices, and strengthening local retail partnerships. This role offers autonomy, meaningful impact, and the opportunity to shape how our brand shows up in one of our most important markets.
