Scope of Work
A solid waste management expert-in-training who travels between a group of communities to assess, educate, report on, support and improve their waste management systems. Work is in collaboration with Senior Circuit Riders, solid waste management operators and community administrators. You are supervised and guided by the Senior Circuit Rider, Program Manager and Indigenous Services Canada contact.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Review IZWTAG’s Operating Standards document and Circuit Rider Manual highlighting criteria and support for the position.
• Site visits, reviews and assessments for each solid waste management system.
• Scheduling and preparing community engagements.
• Developing operations and maintenance training plans for each community.
• Conduct on-site training for community solid waste management operators.
• Provide updates to the Program Manager throughout the Program.
• Complete a final report for each community.
Qualifications
Any applicant who is interested in this position but feels they may not have all the qualifications listed should still consider applying. On the job training and acquiring skills through collaboration with the Senior Circuit Rider and the IZWTAG Team is a focus of this position. A willingness to learn and seek ongoing improvement are assets to the successful candidate.
• Demonstrated experience working with First Nation communities and has a familiarity, understanding, and respect for their cultures. Indigenous ancestry an asset.
• Ability to work on a contract basis with IZWTAG.
• A basic understanding of zero-waste philosophy and practices.
• 2-3 years of experience in the solid waste management industry and/or public works positions.
• 2-3 years of experience in educational positions or fully capable of organizing and instructing a course.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with driving record in good standing.
• Willingness and ability to travel to isolated and interior regions of BC.
• Basic ability to use MS Office, Word, Excel.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and abilities.
