Job Summary

Merlin Plastics Supply Inc. is looking for a motivated and reliable Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their skills while gaining hands-on experience maintaining and repairing industrial equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing and recycling environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time for scheduled shifts and follow company attendance expectations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts, loaders, shunt trucks, trailers, and other plant equipment.
  • Assist with diagnosing, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment.
  • Replace and adjust worn or damaged components as required.
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper mechanical operation.
  • Repair, lubricate, assemble, and install machinery and equipment using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assist with major repairs, equipment overhauls, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs when required.
  • Assist in maintaining the company’s fleet of forklifts, trailers, and trucks.
  • Dismantle and reassemble machines using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Operate machine shop equipment, including a lathe, where trained and authorized.
  • Assist production personnel with equipment-related issues and troubleshooting.
  • Support the installation of new equipment and machinery.
  • Maintain accurate communication with the Maintenance team regarding equipment conditions and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment concerns immediately to the Maintenance Lead or Plant Manager.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Registered Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice.
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a plant, warehouse, or industrial environment is an asset.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Millwright knowledge or experience is an asset.
  • Forklift certification is considered an asset.
  • Basic welding experience is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Reliable, dependable, and safety-focused.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 25–45 lbs.
