Merlin Plastics is a leading plastic recycling and manufacturing company committed to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence. We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated Lead Hand/ Shift Supervisor to join our Production team.

Position Overview

The Lead Hand plays a key role in ensuring efficient production operations while maintaining a safe and well-organized plant. This position provides daily leadership, supports employees, ensures proper training, and helps maintain production quality and workflow. The Lead Hand reports directly to the Plant Manager and collaborates closely with the Foreman, workers, and management team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time or before scheduled shifts
  • Follow and enforce company policies, safety regulations, and SOPs
  • Understand and support operations across all plant areas, including: Balers, forklift operations, labor roles, sorting lines
  • Operate all plant machinery and replace other workers when required
  • Ensure proper staff utilization and allocation
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping
  • Motivate employees and communicate company vision and expectations
  • Provide training and clear instructions to new employees
  • Address and discipline improper or unsafe behavior immediately
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to: Production flow, Machinery, Personnel
  • Report equipment issues and work closely with the maintenance team
  • Ensure required tools and equipment are available for all tasks
  • Complete physical inspections of production lines before and after shifts
  • Check for leaks, damage, wear and tear, and cleanliness
  • Ensure production reports and paperwork are accurate before submission
  • Enforce Health & Safety programs and report hazards immediately
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and internal teams
  • Assist in resolving workplace conflicts or disputes
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Lead Hand or Assistant Lead Hand in a plant environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable, dependable, and positive attitude
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels
  • Basic knowledge of human relations and supervision
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Forklift, loader, and skid steer experience is an asset
