Position Summary for Class 5 Driver

Recycling Alternative (RA) will begin servicing the Multi-Unit Residential Building recycling collection in Downtown Vancouver and False Creek in early 2026. We’re hiring a dependable 5-ton driver with Air Brakes to join our new residential recycling collection team. You will operate a truck on scheduled neighbourhood routes, ensuring safe, efficient, and friendly collection service. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be getting in and out of the truck frequently and loading/unloading carts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a 5-ton, multi-stream recycling truck on residential pickup routes
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Load and unload recycling materials (physical work)
  • Monitor collection material for contamination
  • Communicate with dispatch throughout the day
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-kept vehicle
  • Provide friendly, professional service to residents
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

Qualifications

  • Class 5 Driver’s License with Air Brake (code 15) endorsement
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Minimum 1–2 years commercial driving experience
  • Physically capable of regularly moving wheeled carts that can weigh up to 50 lbs
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of the Vancouver area is an asset
  • Experience in recycling or waste handling is helpful, but not required
  • Has Air Brake Endorsement (willing to provide course funding)
  • Experience driving electric vehicles an asset but not required
  • Team player with a positive, collaborative attitude.
  • Able to perform routine maintenance.

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Monday to Thursday – 4×10 hour shifts
  • Occasional overtime may be required
