Overview:
The Picker (Metal Sorter/General Labourer) is a full-time, permanent, non-exempt position that reports to Operations Department Supervisors/Managers.
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Picker (Metal Sorter/General Labourer) is responsible for sorting through scrap metal or plastic according to grade and size by performing the following duties, as follows:
- Removal of metal/plastic from sorting table, hand-truck, or conveyor types of metal/plastic by sight on sorting table;
- Keeping work area clean;
- May be assigned to operate or repair simple mechanical equipment;
- Other duties or special projects as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- Must have own vehicle to commute to Mitchell Island;
- Ability to clearly communicate in English (spoken and written);
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-3 months related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Must be able to regularly stand, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds;
- Must pass pre-employment drug & alcohol test and criminal background check;
- Must be willing to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (i.e. uniform, safety glasses, steel toed boots, hardhat, earplugs, and gloves);
- Safety conscious;
- Must be willing to work afternoon/evening shift;
- Manufacturing or production associate experience considered an asset;
- Forklift Certification (nice to have);
