About Us
Ruth and Naomi’s Mission has been in Chilliwack for over 20 years. From handing out sandwiches to the homeless in downtown Chilliwack, we have grown to encompass three locations in Chilliwack – and from 4 employees to almost 100! We are operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
In our Community of Chilliwack, we serve 300 meals each day; we place 120 people into permanent housing every year; and, we support 35 residential recovery beds for men and women… just to name a few of our services. As our Mission Statement says, We are here to transform the lives of the poor, the homeless and the addicted by bringing hope and healing through the love of God.
Ruth and Naomi’s is a faith based Mission and as such is the foundation upon which the operation is based.

We are currently hiring in the following position:
Custodian/Cleaner – Pathways and Revive
This newly added position to our Shelters in effect lays the foundation upon which our clients and employees can operate. The critical component this position will be charged with is ensuring that the Shelter is kept sanitary, organized and orderly in two primary areas:
1. Ensuring the daily amounts of laundry generated in the Shelter is done – from beginning to end; and,
2. Ensuring that cleaning and sanitizing of the Shelter and surrounding areas is done on a daily basis.
This position is a seven day a week position, reflective of the hours of operation of the Shelters and as such we are hiring both a Fulltime and a Parttime employee.
The position demands someone who lives and breathes CLEAN. A place for everything and everything in its place is your mantra!
Core Duties Include:
· Creates a friendly, positive, hope-filled faith-based environment within the Shelter
· Organizes and processes the laundry generated on a daily basis; laundering bedding and in some instances clients’ personal belongings (potentially involving two locations)
· Scrubs and sanitizes client restrooms and shower facilities daily
· Scrubs and sanitizes food service areas and equipment as required and requested
· Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes to renew floor surfaces; operates various cleaning machines (e.g., buffers, shampooers, vacuums, hall machines, extractors)
· The go-to person when something needs cleaning within the Shelter and surrounding areas
· Empties and cleans trash receptacles and/or recycling bins
· Maintains a clean and orderly supply closet; monitors supply levels and reports supply needs to supervisor
· Maintains equipment, reports need for repairs; reports evidence of damage, fire, illegal entry, and theft of property
· Cleans outside parameter area as required and requested
· Maintains appropriate professional and personal boundaries
· Observes and assesses agitation and stress levels so as to be able to proactively diffuse potentially aggressive situations. Escalates concern to senior scheduled staff
· Potential for exposure to infectious diseases while conducting other job tasks or interacting with personnel
· Reports damaged, maintenance or vandalized property within the shelter on the daily report
· May perform seasonal weather-related responsibilities for clients and property as assigned
· Attends staff meetings as required
· Maintains appropriate professional and personal boundaries
Education / Training / Experience:
Grade 12 or equivalent required
Post-secondary certificate programme in custodial services or janitorial work is considered an asset
2 years previous work experience in a similar position
First Aid/CPR training an asset
Class 5 Drivers License required
Experience working in a stressful, emotionally challenging environment with awareness of security protocols
COVID vaccinations
Clean criminal check (completed at hire date)
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 40 per week
Salary: $23.00 per hour
