POSITION OVERVIEW:

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Car Processor to be based out of our Burnaby B.C. location, reporting to our Operations Manager. The schedule for this role is 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

The Car Processor is responsible for safety preparing and dismantling vehicles for recycling at the car pad. Duties include removing garbage, batteries, draining fluids, removing tires and separating them from rims, all while adhering to the company’s policy and procedures. Additionally, they will assist with processing, moving, sorting, cutting and packaging the pieces of scrap metal for transport out of the yard.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Removes tires, batteries, catalytic converters, & mercury switches from vehicles.
  • Drains all fluids from top to bottom end of vehicles.
  • Packages and prepare bus tires and batteries for transport.
  • Ensures fire prevention and follow safety guidelines.
  • Monitor all waste tanks
  • Extract freon from appliances. 1-Day training on freon extraction will be provided by the company.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork. May include, but not limited to, daily logs, inspection logs.
  • Complies with all PPE requirements for the task, and ensures all PPE is stored properly in designated area.
  • Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Adheres to ABC’s workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Maintains working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous labour experience and candidates that are mechanically inclined preferred.
  • Must have strong vehicle parts knowledge.
  • Must have front-loader experience.
  • Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
  • Experience running a bobcat, and/or forklift in a related industry is considered an asset.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, vibration and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and material we process as would be found throughout a recycling yard.
  • Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards.
